Smith River Alliance believes societies are inspired to safeguard places like rivers when they are familiar with what places like rivers provide. When we see salmon swimming in the Smith River, or we camp by the river’s edge and hear the creatures that fly by in the night, our city lives are temporarily forgotten.
Rock Creek Ranch is located on the South Fork of the Smith River and serves as a wonderful “outdoor classroom.” In this setting, SRA's environmental education programs focus on Smith River watershed science, natural systems processes, conservation needs and experiential learning.
We plan to expand our environmental education programs to increase opportunities for both youth and adults to learn about and experience the natural world.
Hosted by Smith River Alliance at Rock Creek Ranch, our Summer Day Camp is a cooperative project of Gateway Education and Del Norte County Unified School District. It is open to Del Norte County youth between the ages of 9 and 14. The 2011 session of camp will be July 25-29. More
Also provided by SRA, the Smith River Immersion Camps offer participants the opportunity to: 1) Immerse themselves in the experience of snorkeling the Smith River, 2) Learn about stream ecology with hands-on exercises, and 3) Become experts in identifying different types of trout and salmon. More
