The land protected by SRA reflects Del Norte County’s rich natural diversity and the important contribution wild and scenic rivers, forests and wildlife areas make to the area.
Since 1980, Smith River Alliance has increased protection of the Smith River Watershed to ensure that current and future generations can feel the awe and peace that wild spaces inspire.
One method of protection involves purchasing forests, wetlands and key public access points from willing sellers. We manage, donate or sell this land to public agencies.
SRA works with partner organizations, developing public support and funding for projects like Mill Creek and Goose Creek. Current projects that exemplify SRA’s commitment to protecting threatened landscapes include Hurdygurdy Creek and Lake Earl Wildlife Area.
